Morayshire indoor bowls: Forres Victoria edged out by Hopeman A, Lossiemouth keep winning and Alves and Burghead impress

After an uneventful start to their league campaign, Alves looked a bit more impressive at home to Fogwatt.

Gordon Gallagher and Graeme Taylor both began brightly and ensured a first session lead for the home club. Mike Anderson and Colin Taylor took control of their matches winning 15-6 and 17-4 for an overall victory and six valuable points for last season’s runners-up.

Burghead looked to get back on track after the disappointment of last week’s loss in the Charity Cup when they entertained second-placed Lhanbryde.

Experienced skips John Ross and Brian Davidson put the coastal club in a commanding position after the first session winning 22-5 and 13-6.

The visitors led by a single shot entering the final ends in the second session before Ryan Gordon for the home club won the last five ends and supported by Cameron Leggat, Burghead claimed all six points and third place in the league.

Fochabers played host to Hopeman with the first session surprisingly one-sided in favour of the home club, Dougie Low winning 19-4 and Keith Lambert impressive only dropping two ends, winning 13-3.

The second session proved to be a lot closer, with George Duncan and Jim Pirie tying their match with 11 shots apiece.

Tommy Murray secured a valuable two points for the coastal club holding on for a 10-9 victory.

Leaders Lossie Bowling Club travelled to Moray Bowling Club in what proved to be the match of the week with high quality bowls from both teams.

George Robb jnr won the opening contest for the hosts 9-8, and Tam Stewart replied for the leaders winning 13-8.

The second session was equally competitive as George Jack secured overall victory for the visitors and Ralph Smith winning a consolation point for the Elgin club.

In the second division, Forres Victoria looked to continue their recent run of form at home to Hopeman A.

The coastal club made a strong start on both carpets scoring 14 shots without reply on their way to securing a maximum six points.

Duffus hosted Lossie BC A with only one shot separating the teams after the first session in favour of the home club.

Gibby Philips and Davy Clerihew both impressed in the 2nd session winning 17-4 and 13-8 as the village club move into second position in the league table.

Runaway leaders Forres Royal British Legion went on the road to Birnie with Harry Milne and Ian McArthur winning the important ends as the Legion led by eight shots going into the second session.

There was no let-up from the leaders as they swept to another victory and maximum points once again.
