LOSSIEMOUTH’S search for a goalscorer is over with the acquisition of experienced striker Kris Duncan.

And the Coasters have further strengthened their pack by bringing Scott Gordon back to the club for a second spell.

Manager Joe Russell is delighted with his double swoop for two players he knows can deliver quality in Highland League football.

Duncan (29), nicknamed ‘Baker’ in football, penned a two-year deal after leaving Rothes, where he enjoyed two spells as well as serving Deveronvale, Forres Mechanics and Keith.

Lossie’s top scorer last term managed just four goals in total, an area which Russell understandably identified as needing strengthened.

“Baker fancies himself as the central striker and watching him this week in the couple of sessions already you can see he brings something to the team that the others don’t yet,” he said.

“Hopefully he will get goals from that position but we don’t want to put too much pressure on him. With the games we just lost by the odd goal that would have made a massive difference.

“More goals can get us more points on the board and up the table a little bit so that’s what we are looking for. He brings experience to the team as well and that will help the younger boys we have up there.”

Gordon started his league career as a teenager at Lossie when he was brought to the club by Charlie Charlesworth, before dropping down to the juniors with his home town Burghead Thistle for the past two seasons.

“Bringing in Scotty is really good and he’s desperate to get back playing at this level,” Russell added.

Predominantly a centre midfielder in his first spell at Lossie, Gordon featured regularly at centre back with Burghead and could fill the void left by Aaron Hamilton’s departure to Forres Mechanics.

Russell is relishing the challenge of bringing his young squad to the next level. The manager missed the last three months of last season due to an RAF posting in the Falklands, but was given encouraging reports by assistant Ian Campbell and first team coach Scott Campbell about the progress being made by the team.

“Last year we knew where we were and it was about setting the foundations, so I’m hoping this year we’ve got something to build on.”
