Morayshire Indoor Bowling Association completes 2019-20 season halted by Covid-19 with Bishopmill crowned rinks champions

BISHOPMILL won the final honour of the Morayshire Indoor Bowling Association 2019-20 season which was stopped by the pandemic, writes Ronald Gordon.

Moray Bowling Club hosted the MIBA finals night withh bowlers turning out in their numbers to support the event, sponsored by Alexander Wallace.

Bishopmill played Alves in the rinks final with the Elgin club skipped by Ron Garrow taking the early imitative leading 6-2 after three ends.

Garrow's team continued to show their superiority with consistent bowls, at one stage leading 11-3 but Alves dug deep in the later ends to trail 14-11.

Playing the penultimate end where Bishopmill lay four shots, Alves skip Colin Taylor played an exceptional final bowl to make it a two-shot contest playing the final end.

With Alves lying two shots, Garrow played a superb drawing bowl to lie shot, and Taylor narrowly missed with his final deliver as the Elgin club claimed the trophy.

Audrey Gill paid tribute to the MIBA management committee for their contribution in ensuring the final’s night went ahead and also for ensuring there would be a resumption of the association with an invitation league this season.

First Division: Fochabers

Second Division: Lossiemouth

Charity Cup: Moray BC

Association Singles: Fochabers (Ross Andrews)

Campbell Cup: Burghead (Ryan Gordon)

Association Pairs: Burghead (Davy Cameron and Brian Davidson)

Association Triples: Fogwatt (Lee Denoon, Ronnie Watt and Gordon Wiles)

Association Rinks: Bishopmill (P Logie, A Cantlie, W Robertson and R Garrow)

Seven teams will take part in this season's MIBA invitation league.

Hopeman and Lossie BC have entered two mixed teams for what should be a closely-contested league along woth Burghead, Moray BC and Fochabers.

The top four teams at the end of the league campaign go into a play-off with two semi-finals and a final, where the eventual winner will be decided.
