City have had two blank Saturday’s on the competitive front and saw Tuesday night’s home clash with leaders Kelty Hearts postponed due to a waterlogged Borough Briggs pitch.

Manager Gavin Price is desperate to return to the business of getting some much-needed points on the board, starting with the long journey south this weekend.

It’s been frustrating,” he said. “I thought we had been building a bit of momentum in terms of performances so it is a case that we will hopefully pick up where we left off and pick up the points at Annan.

“I think we need to go and get a positive result. We have done alright the last couple of times we have been down there but it is always tough and we are going to have to be at our best to get through it.”

Price took some plus points from his team’s 18-day break from league and cup matches.

On the first blank weekend the entire squad training in the north, while last Saturday City played a bounce game against Strathspey Thistle at the new Gleaner Arena.

Elgin defeated their Highland League opponents 8-1 with Conor O’Keefe and Matheus Machado both netting hat-tricks, while Tony Dingwall and Euan Spark also scored.

“We have managed to keep ourselves ticking over with some good training time and the match, which was a good exercise.

“We’ve been able to rest up some of the players who would have been struggling to play and give others some time on the park.”

Rory MacEwan, Russell Dingwall, Ross Draper and Archie Macphee were all carrying injuries.

All could return for Annan, although Macphee has a calf strain while Draper’s knee problem may not be risked on the artificial surface.

Kane Hester has also benefitted from another hour of action and is set to start but captain Spark is suspended.

Even the postponed match on Tuesday wasn’t a complete disaster for the Black and Whites.

“We managed to get a training session with all of the south boys who made it up,” Price added. “So it wasn’t a wasted night but it was frustrating not to get a game.”
