CHRIS Angus won’t be leaving Buckie Thistle on the cheap after being transfer-listed by the Highland League champs.
Monday’s shock news that Angus (27) was up for sale after nine years with Jags is sure to attract interest from clubs across the north.
Buckie boss Graeme Stewart said he felt Angus, who is currently out with a hamstring injury, needed a new challenge with a club closer to his Aberdeen home base.
But he warned potential suitors: “We will be looking for market value for Chris. He’s still got two-and-a-half years of his contract to go.”
Angus has played a pivotal role in three Buckie title triumphs, most recently last season when he scored 28 goals and was also a hero in the club’s Aberdeenshire Cup triumph over Cove.

He also netted 20 times in the previous campaign and has starred for Jags as a full back, midfielder and striker over the years.
Stewart said: “He’s played at Buckie a long time and been a great servant. I’ve got a lot of respect for him, but things change in football and I’ve been there myself. We just think it’s best for the club and best for Chris if there’s a parting of the ways.
“He is probably getting to a stage in his life where the travel to Buckie is becoming a bit too much for him, and he’s got a young family. I think Chris would be more suited to a team based closer to Aberdeen.
“He’s struggled with injuries but that’s nothing to do with the decision. That’s purely based on the fact that we need to build a team that’s going to go on for the next few years and we probably think that Chris at this stage of his career needs a new challenge and he’s probably not going to be in our team.”
Around three years ago Angus looked set for a move to Formartine United, whose big money bid for the player was accepted by Buckie.
However he elected to sign a new contract with Jags instead.
Goalkeeper Ross Salmon has also been transfer listed after becoming frustrated at playing second fiddle to Daniel Bell.
