BUCKIE Thistle assistant boss Lewis Mackinnon is looking forward to welcoming new Jags signings Kevin Main and Lewis Dunbar to training next weekend.

Jags also hope to have former Aberdeen youngster Max Barry signed up this summer, and will offer a trial to former Elgin City, Clach and Strathspey Thistle striker Adam MacLeod.

MacKinnon revealed that ex-Deveronvale full-back Dunbar (23) was signed on a pre-contract deal and will finalise his move to Buckie soon.

Goalkeeper Main’s return to Victoria Park was much heralded in the close season, and Mackinnon is pleased to see the way Jags squad is shaping up.

That squad will begin pre-season training on June 5 and Jags number two expects the players to be in peak condition.

“It’s looking like it could be back to a more normal season ahead and the boys are raring to go,” he said.

“We’ve been doing a wee pre-pre season programme over the last month. Hamish Munro, our fitness coach has been putting stuff up on the Strava for us to do and everybody seems to be in good shape going by the figures we are seeing.”

During the close season, Buckie lost Joe McCabe to an employment opportunity in London, and Dunbar - who has impressed the Jags management team with his past performances for Vale - comes in as a replacement.

“We have had our eye on him for a good few seasons,” said Mackinnon.

“He’s hurt us numerous times in the right back position two or three years ago for Deveronvale so he’s been on our radar, and with Joe McCabe moving down to London there’s competition again for the right back position with Hamish Munro and Shaun Wood.

“Lewis is a good runner, he’s fit and likes to get forward as well, a modern day full back and he’s young and he’s in the Moray region so he ticks all the right boxes.”

On veteran Main’s Buckie return, Mackinnon added: “Kevin is without doubt the best goalkeeper I’ve played with. He’s class and even at his age now he is as fit as a fiddle. We will get two good years out of him for sure.”

Teenager Barry, who featured for Jags in their Scottish Cup tie against Caley Thistle in March, will join the club for training with a view to signing on.
