Celtic fans praise Buckie Thistle: 'You did your club, town and league proud'

BUCKIE Thistle have left a mark on many at Celtic Park after the biggest match in the club's history on Sunday.

A 2400-strong Jags army travelled to Glasgow to take on Celtic, losing 5-0, but gaining the respect of many involved with the Hoops in the process.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers praised the Jags' spirit, as well as the club's away support, and Celtic supporters have been just as full of praise.

Paddy Nolan emailed the Scot to say: "The Buckie fans were fantastic. Them and the club are a credit to football. Go win the league now."

Hundreds of others just like Paddy took to social media on Sunday night, after the match, to heap praise on the Jags players and supporters.

Chris Tierney said: "Well done to Buckie! The fans and players did the club proud. I never really clap an opposition off the pitch but today I did. Good luck for the rest of the season."

Peter Sweeney added: "Well done lads. You done your club proud. You done your town proud. And you done the Highland League proud. Today Glasgow was green and white. Well, with a bit of yellow and blue thrown in!"

Marion Christie had a similar sentiment – praising the travelling support: "Well done Buckie Thistle Football Club you did your club and your fans proud. You can hold your heads high. Hope you enjoyed the experience. Fans were a credit to you."

Debbie O'Donnell-Collins added: "Great game guys. It was a delight to host your fans can come back any time, you know how to behave."

Many of the Hoops fans said they would continue to follow Jags scores – and wished them all the best in their hunt for Highland League glory.

Craig Johnstone said: "Well done to the Buckie players and all at the club. Today was your day, hope you all enjoyed the experience. All the best for the rest of the season."

Carrie Louise said: "Well done Buckie Thistle. Your support was amazing and the players played well against Celtic. Be proud of what you achieved. All the best in the league and rest of the season."

Kevin Starrs added: "Well done Buckie Thistle. You did your club and town proud. Brilliant away support. Go and win The Highland League."

Perhaps some Celtic fans will even make a trip north to watch their new-found green and white hooped friends.

Peter Kane said: "Huge respect Buckie Thistle. Jags, fans, players, staff... all the best for the season. On my bucket list to get up and take a game in at Buckie in the future now!"

Phillip Balneaves even said he was hoping the Jags grabbed a goal. He said: "Your support is a credit, from a proud Celtic Supporter. I wished when your player was through on goal he scored. Good luck for the rest of the season. United in Friendship fellow Hoops."
