Buckie Thistle's request for 5000 tickets for their Scottish Cup clash has been granted by the Glasgow giants.

It could mean more than half the population of the Banffshire town making the trip to Celtic Park for the televised January 21 tie.

Jags' general manager Stephen Shand said the Victoria Park club will look to get the briefs on sale quickly.

Numerous buses have already been booked to bring the green and white army down to Glasgow for the biggest match in Buckie's history.

"I understand we are being given the full 5000," Shand said. "(Club director) Danny Farquhar has been dealing with Celtic but I believe we’ve been granted the full amount we asked for.

"It's brilliant. We are just working out how to get them here or sell them, the whole process has still to be decided.

"If we get them delivered up here it will be a combination of online and public sales. Not everyone is online so we would have to do a local sale and an online sale through the club shop."

Buckie Thistle are sponsored by local bus firm Maynes and they could be sending their whole fleet down the road to accommodate the demand from fans desperate to attend the match.

Shand said around 143 members of the club's youth development section have already signed up to travel.

"There's so many booked up already. There’s three buses going from the supporters’ club as well.

"The Thistle Bar’s got a couple of buses and there’s one from the Legion and we're expecting quite a few more."

It was revealed this week that Buckie has asked Celtic if they could wear their own home shirt of green and white hoops for the big match, but the request had been denied.

It will also be the first match in Buckie's history to feature VAR, with the Highland League club expected to foot around half of the £9000 cost.
