UNDERDOGS is a tag that will suit Ross Jack just fine as his Elgin City side bid for third division play-off glory.

City face second division Albion Rovers at Borough Briggs on Wednesday night in the first leg of their play-off semi-final.

"Being underdogs doesn’t faze us one bit. We are going into the game with momentum and hopefully we can take the game to them," he said.

City completed the regulation season with a 3-1 win over Queens Park at Hampden.

Jack (pictured) used the game to give some of his squad players a starting opportunity and they didn’t disappoint.

He has had a report from Rovers’ defeat to Stirling Albion last weekend and has extensive video footage of the Coatbridge side.

"We know they will be very rigid and solid, they don’t give very much away," he said.

"We will have to be very patient and remember that the game is over 180 minutes.

"However, we also need to take full advantage of being at home in front of a right good passionate crowd.

"It should be a great atmosphere, with a good support getting right behind the boys from the start."

This is the first time in 12 years in the Scottish Football League that Elgin have made the play-offs, but Ross Jack and no.2 Barry Wilson don’t want the achievement to end there.

Victory over Albion in the two-legged semi-final would see them face either Stranraer or Queens Park in a final also played home and away.

"I used the opportunity to give a number of players a game last Saturday. Everybody is desperate to be involved in the play-offs," said Jack.

Definitely out is long-term injury victim Paul Kaczan while Barry Wilson tore his hamstring and he is also ruled out.

Daniel Moore was on the bench at Hampden after recovering from his medial ligament injury, but he wasn’t risked. He should be in the squad for the game on Wednesday though.

The match against Albion Rovers kicks off at 7.45pm.
