DEPARTING Elgin City defender Allan Dempsie has accused his former team-mates and the club’s Board of failing to back manager Ross Jack.

The fed-up Glaswegian could be ready to quit playing after admitting the demise of another promotion bid left him at the lowest ebb.

Dempsie claimed manager Jack and the Elgin supporters have been left short-changed by individuals he accused of being at Borough Briggs for their own personal gain rather than the club’s well-being.

“Over the last while, I’ve just felt there’s been people who have not been giving 100%. I’m not just talking about the players, about the whole place in general,” said the 28-year-old former Hibs and Ayr United stopper.

“The gaffer deserves to have everybody at the club behind him but, personally, I don’t think, hand on heart, that anybody can say they did back him enough.”

After City’s 3-2 win over Berwick in the final home match of their season, Dempsie told manager Jack he would not be returning for next term.

Personal circumstances, including the recent death of his father and a desire to spend more time with his wife and two children, have been part of Dempsie’s decision to quit the club for which he has played almost 200 times.

But the player also feels City missed out on a great opportunity to win the Division 3 title by not investing in the team when they were riding high at the turn of the year.

“Every season has been a hard luck story for us, but this season we really had a chance. We had the Hearts and the Caley cup-ties and the club must have made a good bit of money from those.

“So I just feel they should have backed the gaffer with that. We were doing so well and even that extra wee bit could’ve made a difference. There’s absolutely no doubt in my mind we could have gone on and won the league, never mind the play-offs.
