Midfielder Russell Dingwall made it ten goals for the season with a first half hat-trick including two penalty kicks in City's first-ever visit to New Dundas Park.

But while Elgin completely dominated the first half, their hosts had the bulk of the second half pressure and scored twice before threatening to draw level late in the contest.

City dominated the early exchanges with Ross Draper coming close with a header before a foul on top scorer Kane Hester allowed the visitors to go in front from Dingwall's first penalty.

Jake Dolzanski nodded just wide for City before Dingwall grabbed his second, capitalising on a blunder from the Bonnyrigg keeper midway through the first half.

It got even better for the Black and Whites just before half time when Hester was once again felled in the box and Dingwall completed his first Elgin treble from the spot.

But it was very different in the second half after Conor Doan pulled one back for the home side three minutes after the change of ends.

City keeper Daniel Hoban pulled off one fantastic save before being beaten again by an effort from former Elgin attacker George Hunter.

The away side withstood pressure in the final 15 minutes to complete a league double over the League Two new boys and boost their promotion aspirations.
