City dominated virtually from start to finish and were good value for the three points.

Elgin started with Robert Jones in attack, and Caley Thistle teenager Keith Bray dropping to the bench after starting the last two matches against Dumbarton and Clyde.

The home side started well, Draper testing keeper Allan Fleming after the referee failed to spot an East Fife handball on the edge of the box.

Brian Cameron had a shot cleared off the line and Draper saw a headed goal disallowed for offside as City dominated the first ten minutes.

Cameron headed just over midway through the half and on 38 minutes a Mitch Taylor free kick forced a diving save out of Fleming.

There was a setback for City when captain Matthew Cooper went off with a knee injury, replaced by Owen Cairns on 42 minutes.

But within a minute the Black and Whites drew first blood and it was Cameron who broke his own scoring drought to make it 1-0.

Draper smashed a drive off the base of the post and Cameron slotted home the rebound, his first goal in 47 matches dating back to November 2022.

City remained on top in the second half and Dayshonne Golding was first to try his luck after cutting in from the left and firing over the target.

Mitch Taylor did the same after a run from deep, unable to keep his shot down on the hour.

Golding again worked his magic on 64 minutes, weaving across the penalty box for a shot which Fleming tipped over at full stretch.

For all their good play, Elgin knew a single goal lead might not be enough, and they were given a warning with ten minutes left.

From a Robbie Hamilton corner on 81 minutes, Nathan Austin stooped to deliver a diving header which Tom McHale dived to push away, virtually his first save of the game.

City could have killed it off in stoppage time when Mark Gallagher broke through on goal biut Fleming saved at his feet.

It was the final act of the day as the final whistle signalled another morale-boosting win for the Black and Whites.
