Regional bank manager Isla Benzie (40) was voted onto the board at a Borough Briggs meeting on Monday.

A supporter of the club since a young age and a regular at games home and away, she lives in Kintore but is originally from Elgin.

She said: “I have known (director)Cecil Jack all my life so I spoke to him about helping the club out because I thought that I could offer something with fundraising and maybe use my experience of working in business.

“He put the idea forward to the rest of the directors and I went along to a meeting last month and met (chairman) Graham Tatters and (director) Ian Clark and they asked if I wanted to join, and of course I said yes.

“I am really flattered and I am looking forward to it. I think it will add a bit of diversity. There are obviously a lot of female fans at Elgin as well so I hope that in a way I can represent them.

“Hopefully I can bring some variety and maybe a bit of a feminine touch.”

Chairman Tatters said: ““It gives a bit of diversity and equality on the board and we have not got a lot of directors as it is.

“She will definitely bring a freshness that we don’t have at the minute. As a board we are getting on a bit and she could be more in touch with people than we are.”
