DISBELIEF and regret were the two main emotions for Elgin City boss Ross Jack as he saw his team held to a 1-1 draw by ten man Berwick on Saturday.

Jack said Elgin tore into a home side which played for 76 minutes with a man short, and "had enough chances to win ten games" but failed to make their superiority count.

"Berwick were jumping about at the end as if they had won the league. They couldn't believe they had managed to get away with a point," Jack said after the match.

"We just ripped into them and had an unbelievable amount of chances, so it's very disappointing we didn't come away with the three points."

City had never won at Shielfield Park in 13 previous attempts but looked good for a first victory when top scorer Craig Gunn slotted home a Daniel Moore cross on 34 minutes to put them ahead.

Berwick had by this stage been reduced to ten men when David Greenhill was shown a straight red card for a wild high tackle on Stuart Leslie on just 14 minutes.

Jason Crooks (twice) and Ross O'Donoghue missed opportunities to add to Elgin's lead before Darren Gribben levelled for the home side in first half stoppage time.

And Elgin were unable to make their extra man countdespite heavy pressure in the second half as the game petered out to a 1-1 draw.

"I'm beginning to sound like a parrot now but we really are missing so many opportunities," Jack said.

"The game was in our hands until ten seconds before half time when berwick scored with their first shot on goal. A combination of mistakes let their boy in and he took it well.

"But the chance count over the 90 minutes was something like 14 to 3 in our favour so it's definitely two points dropped."

Despite the draw, Elgin have now gone five games unbeaten including tricky away trips to Annan, Fraserburgh and Berwick, and have the chance to battle back into the play-off places when they host Montrose on Tuesday night.

However, they will have to do without skipper Paul Kaczan, who manager Jack said will be ruled out due to the combination of a back problem and hamstring strain.
