In a brief statement, following the game, Elgin City confirmed the "departure of manager Gavin Price and assistant Jim Weir following a sustained period of poor results".

"The Board of Directors wish to thank Gavin and Jim for their hard work and dedication since joining the club."

The club says it will release a further statement in due course.

With just one win in the last 10 league games, Elgin have gone from promotion contenders to occupying the relegation play-off spot.

Price had been at Elgin City since November 2014 when he joined as Jim Weir's assistant.

He took over the manager's job in October 2017 when Weir took the manager's job at Forfar.

After a promising start to the season which saw Elgin push into contention for the promotion play-offs, a horrible run in 2023 has seen them crash to the foot of the table with five games left to play.

Their fifth straight defeat in Coatbridge signalled the end for the management team.

Elgin have a game in hand on Albion Rovers, who jumped above them into ninth place with their victory.

It is not yet clear who will be in charge for the home game against Stenhousemuir on Tuesday night. It could be first team coach Charlie Charlesworth and goalkeeper coach Steve Dunn.

City now have a fight on their hands to retain the Scottish League status they have enjoyed for the last 23 years.
