The Borough Briggs club has switched its allegiance to the Aberdeenshire and District FA, where they will be able to play in three competitions instead of the one offered to them as north members.

Club director Grant Shewan said: "We are delighted to have been admitted entry to the Aberdeenshire & District Football Association at Thursday night's AGM.

"Everyone involved in the club looks forward to becoming an active member of the association. I would like to extend our thanks to the member clubs for unanimously supporting our application."

As North FA members, City played in the North of Scotland Cup and had competed in a north under-20 league, which hasn't been contested since 2020.

Their move east will allow the club to enter a team into next season's Aberdeenshire League for under-21 sides, as well as the Aberdeenshire Cup and Aberdeenshire Shield competitions alongside east Highland League and junior clubs.

ADFA president Finlay Noble unveiled Elgin as the 17th club to join the Aberdeenshire set-up.

"The Aberdeenshire and District FA is a very proactive association which runs three prestigious competitions, the Evening Express Aberdeenshire Cup, the Morrison Motors Aberdeenshire Shield and the GPH Aberdeenshire League.

"Elgin City have indicated that the intend to play in all three competitions which will only enhance the status of the competition."
