Elgin City manager Allan Hale has made his second signing of the January window, with one player exiting Borough Briggs.

Hale has brought in Cove Rangers striker Dayshonne Golding on loan for the rest of the campaign, having already signed full back Lyall Booth from previous club Huntly this week.

The 26-year-old had been farmed out to Highland League Banks O' Dee where he was regularly on the scoresheet and impressed the City boss from his time managing Huntly.

With Elgin already using all five of their loan slots for the season, they had to terminate one of the other four and striker Matthew Wright has returned to parent club Ross County.

"Dayshonne has only been at Banks O' Dee since the start of October and he's scored eight in 12 games," said Hale.

"I saw a lot of Banks O' Dee, having back-to-back games against them in a cup semi-final and a Highland League game, and in preparation for those games we saw a lot of their games and he really caught the eye then.

"Seeing him up close and personal in those two games, he was someone that really stood out."

Golding has played for a number of non-league clubs south of the border, and was signed by Cove from Cray Wanderers at the start of this season.

"He offers everything really in the sense that he's strong, he's powerful and has an abundance of pace," Hale added.

"He holds the ball in well and obviously he can score goals. His record at Banks O' Dee is right up there with the best in the league.

"He gives us that flexibility where he can play off the side or through the middle. It gives us different tactical approaches that we can make.

"It's a signing that was one of our primary options when we came in so we are obviously glad that we can get that over the line."

Hale had a difficult decision to make regarding Ross County front man Wright, who joined City on loan near the start of the season but has been missing for months due to illness.

He returned to Elgin's bench in Saturday's 2-1 win over Peterhead, coming on for the closing moments of the match.

"Matty has been really good in the training sessions with us but the risk with him is that he is just recovering from a long-term illness," said Hale. "The time it will take him to get up to speed is time that we really don't have in many ways.

"It is a timing issue with Matty, him coming back when the window opens and unfortunately we had to sacrifice a loan and that was the one that made most sense with him currently recuperating.

"Dayshonne is match fit, he's sharp and has been scoring goals so he comes in with a level of confidence which will make him determined to do well in League 2 for the second half of the season.

"So that's two good signings we have taken in this week (Booth was the first) and I'm delighted with them both.
