THERE'S no better time than today for Elgin City to break their Edinburgh City hoodoo.

Borough Briggs hosts the first leg of the League 1 play-off semi-final between the sides, with a rematch at Ainslie Park on Tuesday.

Elgin manager Gavin Price has found the capital side a tough nut to crack during his managerial stint at Borough Briggs, as the recent record between the teams shows.

Since beating Edinburgh on August 11, 2018, Elgin haven't managed a win against the Citizens in nine league meetings.

There's been two 3-3 draws at Borough Briggs, and a couple of 1-1 stalemates in Edinburgh while the capital city club have won the rest, including all three meetings this season.

Indeed Price has faced up to Edinburgh on 13 occasions as Elgin boss and only managed that 2018 win, along with six draws and six defeats.

In Edinburgh's first season in League 2, Elgin defeated them three times out of four, and only lost three times from the first 12 meetings over three seasons.

The overall record between Elgin and Edinburgh shows five Elgin wins, seven Edinburgh successes and six draws.

The last meeting was only a week ago, with Edinburgh inflicting the only post-split league defeat on Elgin with a 2-0 success at Ainslie Park.

Perhaps Elgin were feeling the effects of three matches in four days during that contest, and will be fresher and more confident when the sides clash later today.
