Elgin Cycling Club duo recognised by Cycling UK for contribution to the sport

TWO inspirational members of Elgin Cycling Club have been named on a UK-wide list of 100 women in cycling.

Charity Cycling UK named Lorna Breetzke, the club's chairwoman, and Diane Maciver, vice-chairwoman, on its list of 100 women in the sport.

The pair are co-founders of the Elgin Cycling Club ladies group. Diane is also the ride leader. Both women were recognised in the 'community champions' category.

The list details inspirational women who encourage others to experience the joy of cycling and lead by example in aspiring others to get on their bike.

A 2021 census showed that more men in the UK cycle than women. It is part of the Cycling UK's aim to readdress that gender imbalance and encourage women to enjoy the health benefits that are part of the sport.

Medals are awarded in four different categories: cycle influencer, industry mogul, sporting hero and the category in which Lorna and Diane won – community champion.
