ELGIN Cycling Club's Pluscarden Hilly Time Trial is set to take place this Sunday.

The official timed race will start and end at Torrieston Car Park, hit Rafford and see riders climb up the steep side of Califer Hill.

Spectators will be most welcome from 10.30am to cheer on the 35 entrants – some of whom are travelling from as far as Dundee and Oban.

The event has been organised by Lorna Breetze of Elgin Cycling Club, with a massive amount of support from club members.

This includes those baking cakes and scones for the cyclists, those who will be serving teas at Pluscarden Hall after the race, marshalls and timekeepers. Race Commissaire will be Gordon Lawrie from Forres Cycling Club.

Lorna was keen to make sure this event was as inclusive and easy to enter as possible, with a focus on using normal road bikes only – aero specially equipped time trial bikes are actually banned, making the competition fair for first time riders as well as seasoned racers.

This year's riders range in age from 12 to 53, with first time and regular racers included.

Lorna said: "Good luck everybody! We look forward to seeing who wins the Pluscarden Shield, available only to Elgin Cycling Club members, as well as who actually wins the race."

All road cyclists are welcome at the club's regular Sunday rides which set off from Grant Lodge at 8.30am. Check out Elgin Cycling Club's Facebook page for more detail.
