The loss, paired with Stenhousemuir's 4-1 victory at Edinburgh City means the Moray club has fallen out of the top four.

City are now a point behind Stenny and have played two more games. The Black and Whites were always chasing the game once Scott Roberts put Annan ahead on 27 minutes.

Aiden Smith made it 2-0 shortly after half time and although Shane Sutherland netted to give Elgin some hope, further goals by sub Conor O'Keefe and Blair Henderson in the final ten minutes took the game beyond the visitors.

In the Highland League, Forres Mechanics' fine run continued with a 4-1 win over Strathspey Thistle.

Robbie Duncanson, Allan MacPhee, Andy MacRae and Stuart Soane had the Cans 4-0 up before ex-Forres man John Cameron got one back.

Rothes won by the same scoreline at home to Nairn County and moved back up to tenth in the table.

Jaime Wilson opened the scoring and Gary Kerr's first goal for the Speysiders doubled their advantage.

Nairn got one back before the break but Wilson's second and a superb Dale Wood goal wrapped up the victory for Rothes.

Cove Rangers clinched the league title with a 5-0 success over Clach while nearest rivals Fraserburgh lost 4-0 at Wick.

Deveronvale went down 3-0 at Brora while Huntly were beaten 2-1 at home to Formartine.

Keith's match at Fort William was postponed.
