The Borough Briggs boss is preparing to bring in his fifth loan signing of the season to boost his squad ahead of Saturday’s league trip to East Fife.

City are on the crest of a wave right now after beating Championship Alloa Athletic in midweek on the back of two resounding League 1 successes.

The Black and Whites thumped East Stirling 4-0 at Borough Briggs before pulling off a Petrofac shock on Wednesday to oust last year’s finalists, Alloa, 2-0 after extra time.

Weir now has to get his leg-weary squad ready for Methil this weekend, and revealed how a mystery Premiership player could be in his squad for the trip to Fife.

“I’ll be trying to add someone to the squad going into the East Fife game by bringing in a loan option,” he said. “We’ve expressed an interest in two or three players so we are just waiting to see if it’s going to progress any further. I’ll be making moves on that in the next 24 hours.

“I still feel we could probably do with a wee bit of defensive cover, particularly the right-hand side.

“I also feel you can’t have too many strikers so if I could get another one in it would be a huge benefit for us.”

The manager added that plans to bring in former Livingston midfielder Darren Moffat to the club have been put on hold, with Moffat still training with Ross County under-20s.

Weir praised his team’s “terrific” efforts at the Indodrill Stadium on Wednesday, where they took Danny Lennon’s Alloa side to extra time before winning two penalty kicks to take victory.

Craig Gunn scored the first a minute before half-time after Matthew Cooper was fouled, while Marc McKenzie won and converted the second on 111 minutes as Gunn had been substituted at the break.

“I was delighted for the players with the level of effort they put in. It was absolutely superb,” Weir said.
