ELGIN City are two points clear at the top of League 2 after a 4-0 win over East Stirling on Saturday.

Goals by Daniel Moore, Kyle MacLeod, Craig Gunn and Darryl McHardy helped City to a comfortable result.

With the Black and Whites also winning 3-0 at Arbroath last week in their opening match, they have made a perfect start to the delight of assistant boss Gavin Price.

“The players’ work ethic has been great and with them putting in these performances, there’s a great atmosphere in the changing room,” he said.

Captain Jamie Duff was pleased to be part of Elgin’s second consecutive defensive shut-out.

“I don’t know if Elgin have ever started a league campaign with two clean sheets,” Duff said.

“But we are not going to get ahead of ourselves. It’s only two games and the season is 36 games.”

Jim Weir named an unchanged team from the one which beat Arbroath, against a Shire side who took 10 points from their four games against City last term.

Chances were limited in the first quarter of the game but once Moore rifled home a superb low strike on 23 minutes, there was no looking back for the home side.

On loan Ross County striker MacLeod netted his first senior goal on 36 minutes, meeting a tremendous Moore cross from the left with a sweet volley at the back post.

Gunn also scored with a clinical volley from Matthew Cooper’s right wing cross on 53 minutes, before Darryl McHardy forced in a Moore free kick two minutes later.

It took a superb save by Elgin’s on-loan St Johnstone keeper Mark Hurst to preserve a clean sheet as he kept out Max Wright’s curling free kick for Shire.

City survived a couple more scares to see the game out and record a 4-0 success.

The result was perfect preparation for the Moray men ahead of their Petrofac Training Cup visit to Alloa on Wednesday.

After that, City are away on league business to an East Fife side which thumped Berwick 5-0.

Elgin: Hurst, Cooper, McHardy, Gordon, Duff, Nicolson, McKenzie (McLean 83), Cameron, Gunn (Hunter 83), MacLeod (Macphee 79), Moore. Subs: Halsman, Bruce, Kennedy, Black.
