ELGIN City toppled League 2 leaders Annan to move into second in the table.
A battling performance helped Jim Weir’s side to a 3-2 success, much to the manager’s delight.
“The players were different class to day,” he said.
“Annan had a go at us in the second half as you’d expect but the boys stood up to it.
“I think it would have been unjust on them if Annan had got something out of it. But it can happen I football.
“The boys are playing with confidence just now and I’m delighted.”
Just as they did in the previous week’s 2-0 success over Arbroath, City struck early with a deflected strike from skipper Darryl McHardy.
Unfortunately for McHardy he also scored at the wrong end for Annan’s equaliser.
He could do nothing to prevent a Daniel Moore headed clearance from cannoning back off him into the net from a corner on 26 minutes.
City were under the cosh from a succession of Annan corners but weathered the storm to take the lead just before half time.
Dylan Easton and Connor McLaren combine to slot Brian Cameron into space in the box and he shot home.
Elgin’s third came on 57 minutes from the penalty spot, with Annan claiming Easton conned ref Mike Taylor by making the most of Peter Watson’s challenge.
Craig Gunn made a confident job of converting the kick to give his team some breathing space.
Easton missed a great chance, firing over a gaping goal from a Gunn assist late in the game.
Annan got one back in stoppage time through a Matt Flynn finish but City held on.
They now sit just three points behind their opponents at the top of League 2, and travel to Clyde next weekend.
