Elgin youngster Robyn Collier (13) stars as Sansum Martial Arts travel to English Karate Championships in Essex

AN ELGIN youngster has returned home with a silver medal from the English Karate Championships in Essex.

Lossiemouth's Robyn Collier (13) travelled to Harlow with Sansum Martial Arts as part of a small team of athletes competing at the championships on Saturday, April 23.

The young team performed extremely well, with Robyn picking up a silver medal against high-quality opposition.

Robyn said: “We have all been trying very hard for the World Championships and I was fortunate to get a medal placing.

"I hope my team mates do well at the Scottish Championships in Dundee so we can do Moray and our coaches proud."

Head coach Damon Sansum added: "I am very proud of all our young team and Robyn put the icing on the cake by giving a first-class performance.

"Her efforts will put her into the World Championships to be held from July 13 to 16 at the Dundee Ice Arena.”

The team will be competing again this Sunday, April 23, at the Scottish Championships to attempt to secure more places at the World Championships.

Sansum hold classes in Elgin, Forres, Lossiemouth and Dufftown for youngsters wanting to try a new sport or who just want to get out, do something different and learn new life skills and meet new friends.
