SCOTLAND women's football team captain Rachel Corsie had a few words of encouragement for the local Moray Girls side during a recent visit to Elgin.

Corsie was in the area to speak at the sportMoray Awards night at Elgin Town Hall, and her visit clashed with one of Moray's under 13s teams winning their league with 16 wins out of 17 matches.

The girls scored 107 goals in their 17 matches. There are two Moray under 13 teams – the other finished as runners-up in the North Claire Emslie League. The under 16s team finished fifth in their league, while the first team finished sixth.

Corsie, who led her country out at the World Cup this summer, met the team, including captain Millie McKenzie, and had plenty of words of encouragement for them.

She said: "It's a case of keep working hard at training and keep pushing for more. Never accept the standard you are at, always want more and more and don't give yourself any limitations.

"It would be great more teams in the north that can compete in the top league."

Manager, and father of player Millie, said: "It's really inspiring and I'm glad the girls got to come along and hear about her career. There will be knockdowns in football but it will inspire them to keep going and keep coming back.

"Hopefully it helps keeps girls coming in at a young age, and inspires them at all age levels – ladies as well."
