Buckie Ladies football team remain on course for third consecutive Highlands and Islands league title with seven-goal victory over Ross County

Buckie Ladies football team picked up another convincing victory in their quest to secure a third straight league title.

A 7-0 win over Ross County development team kept Buckie on the shirttails of leaders Sutherland with just four league games to play.

Ross County had to field a number of their under-16 players to help the squad, and Buckie’s experience told in the end.

Had it not been for the County keeper, who made some good saves, the home side could have racked up an even bigger score line.

It took time for Buckie to make a breakthrough but established player Gemma Geddes headed in the opener from a corner, and by half time Jess Moore and Micki Munro had added two more.

Some changes at half time failed to halt Buckie’s dominance, as younger players stepped up to the mark.

Olivia Wood came on to net her first league goal for the club with a nice finish, while another of the young guns, Courtney Grant took up the responsibility when Buckie were awarded a penalty and confidently put it away.

A second goal for Moore and a strike by Rheo Laurenson completed Buckie’s tally to reward a strong performance.

Buckie trail leaders Sutherland by just two points and have a game in hand, with Caithness the next visitors to Gordon Park on September 15.
