FESTIVE Ross Jack has told his players to let their hair down a little at Christmas but keep enough in the tank to dump promotion rivals Alloa Athletic on Boxing Day.

Jack has no worries about the players over-indulging ahead of the crucial clash at Recreation Park.

"I have complete trust in the boys. I have told them to go and enjoy Christmas, have their dinner and a drink, in moderation, and let’s get the job done at Alloa and then we can really enjoy a huge celebration," he said.

Despite three weeks without a game, City are, remarkably, still in the top four and if they can win their games in hand, would go top of the league.

City trail the top three – Stranraer, Annan and Alloa – by eight points but have three games in hand over Saturday’s opponents and Stranraer, and one of their games in hand will be against Annan at Borough Briggs.

"Looking at the league table, we are not getting carried away because our games in hand will be tough games against Peterhead, Annan and Clyde, although two of them are at home.

"We have to take care of the games at Alloa and Peterhead before East Stirling come to Borough Briggs. They are all massive games, and they are getting bigger and bigger as each week goes by."

Jack is convinced his players have the temperament to handle the pressure that goes with an unaccustomed promotion challenge.

"I am confident there is the desire and hunger about the squad. We can’t keep calling them young and inexperienced anymore. In age terms, they are young, but these players have a lot of games under their belt now.

"I believe we have the mental toughness to handle the challenge of getting out of this league."

City head to Alloa on the back of an unbeaten six-game league run which started with a five goal demolition of Paul Hartley’s side at Borough Briggs on October 1.

Jack and No.2 Barry Wilson are looking to bolster the squad in the January transfer window and may look to possible SPL loan deals.
