First of cup double for Buckie

By SPP Reporter

BUCKIE Thistle face the first of a crucial cup double header at Victoria Park tonight (Tuesday).

Jags play host to Formartine United in the semi-finals of the Morrison Motors (Turriff) Aberdeenshire Shield.

Then on Saturday they welcome Brora Rangers to Buckie in the quarter-finals of the Highland League Cup.

Jags boss Graeme Stewart says his men won’t be fancied to win either match but is keen to keep the club’s quest for silverware on track.

“This is our two opportunities to win a bit of silverware so ideally we would like to get through in at least one of them. But hopefully we can do both of them,” he said.

“We will be giving it everything to try and do that.

“We go into both games as underdogs against teams that have got a huge advantage in terms of their budget and players they can take in.

“But we have shown in the past that we can more than compete with these teams because of our team spirit and the quality we’ve got in our team.”

Jags have good form, with five wins and a draw in their last six games to take into their crucial cup games. “Our form is decent and the guys are responding to what we are telling them on the training pitch so I’m really pleased.”

Buckie keeper Daniel Bell is set for a spell on the sidelines as he needs a knee cartilage operation.
