Opponents Burghead looked good in the early stages of the final at Hopeman, John Ross and Cameron Leggat scoring singles on the opening ends.

David Campbell and George Robb jnr found their form for the Elgin club with exquisite bowls through ends three to seven, as they both established a 9-3 advantage.

Young Leggat is not short of confidence and played brilliantly over the last three ends with some key bowls, scoring 11 shots to turn his match on its head winning 15-13.

Robb kept up the pressure counting a four on the 10th end on his way to a 15-7 victory for a six-shot match in favour of the Elgin club heading at halfway.

Burghead’s Brian Davidson and Ryan Gordon soon made it a level match, mainly to Davidson scoring three shots on ends six and seven.

When it looked like the momentum was with the coastal club, Moray’s Ralph Smith again showed his class in the art of drawing bowls as he counted five shots in two ends to tie his match at 10-10.

Steve McKidd counted three shots at ends nine and ten and, knowing Gordon’s ability of shot making played some astute bowls to leave little opportunity for the Broch skip to build up a head in the hope of scoring a big end.

Smith kept the closing ends tight in his match and a three on the last end was mere consolation for Davidson as he knew the game was over with Moray winning by eight shots.

The raffle raised £133 with £100 to go to the Oaks Hospice.

The winning Moray team were: George Robb snr, George Robb jnr, David Campbell, Steve McKidd, Ralph Smith, Malcolm Fletcher, George Grant, Brian Dunbar, Ally Proctor, Aaron Robb, John Roger and David Thomson.

In the Alexander Wallace (Toyota) league Division 2, leaders Lossiemouth were made to battle all the way by Duffus, as they trailed by three shots after the first session before good bowls by Kevin Donaldson made it eight wins out of nine for the coasters.

Lhanbryde had a comfortable victory over Birnie, Lex Harley and Andrew Furr impressive for the home club. Fogwatt hosted Forres Victoria in a terrific contest with the match going right to the final plays of the game with the home club prevailing by a single shot thanks to Ian Mitchell counting three at the last end.

Results, Charity Cup final: Moray BC 50, Burghead 42. Division 2: Lhanbryde 52, Birnie 25; Lossiemouth 45, Duffus 36; Fogwatt 48, Forres Victoria 47.
