Forres gymnasts come home with series of medals from Scottish Floor and Vault Championships in Edinburgh
HALF a dozen gymnasts from Forres came home with medals from the Scottish Floor and Vault Championships held in Edinburgh.
Iris Whitton, Lucy Stephenson, Mya Morrison, Matilda Gee, Charlotte Morrison and Louisa Walters picked up medals at the event, which had a total of 550 competitors.
Iris won bronze in floor, silver in vault and overall silver in the 14+ section; Lucy won bronze in vault (12-13); Mya won gold in vault (11); Matilda (missing from the photo) won bronze in floor; Charlotte came fourth in vault and Louisa got team bronze in the 11-years intermediate with Mya and Matilda.
The girls' achievements were made all the more impressive due to the disrupted nature of preparations – with the club having been moved out of the hall at Forres Academy due to problems with the concrete.
Head coach Patsy Fraser-Mackenzie said: "We were thrilled to have such good results after having such a difficult couple of months.
"The club was made homeless and we had to vacate our usual venue of Forres Academy when aerated concrete was discovered there.
"We were delighted to be able to hire Dyke Village Hall for a few weeks and, although it was really too small for our training, we were made very welcome there.
"Training has been fragmented and difficult so to have wins at national level was very rewarding."
Forres Gymnastics Club is set to make a temporary move to Elgin in January to Moray Sports Centre.
