Forres Royal British Legion close in on Morayshire Indoor Bowling Association second division title

Forres Legion moved to within two points of claiming the second division championship with a dramatic home victory over local rivals Forres Victoria.

Only three shots separated the clubs at the end of the first session with each side recording a victory.

Brian Caldwell won his match for Victoria 15-8 and an upset looked on the cards heading into the closing ends.

With the match tied playing the last end Carol Brown scored two shots to clinch victory and make it 10 wins from 11 matches for the champions-elect.

Duffus kept their slim chances of the title alive with an impressive home victory against Hopeman A.

The coastal club put up spirited resistance as they trailed by four shots after the first three games.

Arthur Morgan put in a stunning performance for the village club to ensure a maximum six points and consolidate second position in the league.

In the first division leaders Lossiemouth Bowling Club have had to rearrange their fixture which gave Lhanbryde an opportunity to close the gap at the top as they visited champions Fochabers.

First match was tied 11-11 after nine ends, Bill Robertson won the last three ends and with Keith Lambert putting in a strong finish the home club were in pole position heading into the second session.

Netta Forres and Dorothy Wiles consolidated for Fochabers as they ran out worthy winners and put a severe dent in Lhanbryde’ s title aspirations.

Moray Bowling Club hosted Hopeman with the Elgin club taking a narrow six-shot lead into the second session thanks to skips Aaron Robb and Ralph Smith.

Steve McKidd won a close encounter 8-6 and George Grant ensured maximum points and third place in the league for the home club.

Alves entertained Burghead with experienced skips Graeme Taylor and Gordon Gallagher both playing solidly to give the home club a first session advantage.

Ryan Gordon reduced the arrears winning 17-11, but Colin Taylor ended any hopes of a revival dropping only three ends as Alves picked up a much needed six points.
