The North Junior season is heading for an exciting finish

FORRES Thistle are just four points away from gaining promotion to the North Junior Super League.

Kevin Walker's side host champions Inverness City on Tuesday night and visit Islavale on Saturday knowing a win and a draw from these two fixtures would be enough to send them up to the top tier next season.

With Inverness winning the Division 1 title but being denied promotion due to ground problems, the second-placed team in the league will leapfrog them into the Super League.

Walker believes it would be a notable achievement for Forres if they were to gain elevation to the top division.

"At the start of the season, I didn't envisage we could be in this position and to get promotion would be unbelievable," said the Logie Park boss.

The third-placed team in Division 1 would also have a chance of promotion via a play-off with the team which finishes second-bottom of the Super League.

Islavale are still in the hunt for that slot, but the Keith outfit's hopes took a dent on Saturday when they suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Buchanhaven Hearts.

Vale must now win their closing two matches and hope for favours elsewhere.

Burghead Thistle gave champions Inverness a good contest on Saturday at Forest park before going down to a 3-2 defeat.

In Division 2, Fochabers lost 5-2 at title challengers Newmachar while RAF Lossiemouth were edged out 2-1 at home to Whitehills.
