Four Morayshire Indoor Bowling Association clubs march on in Ed Beattie Memorial Charity Cup

The quarter-finals of the Ed Beattie Memorial Charity Cup threw up some interesting results.

Fogwatt played hosts to Duffus with the first match going in favour of the visitors, Arthur Morgan edging out Neil Entwistle 12-11.

In the second match, Ian Mitchell finished strongly with a count of six shots on the penultimate end to secure a 15-5 success and give the home club a cushion going into the second session.

Home skip Ronnie Watt edged out Gibby Phillips 11-9 to increase the advantage. Lee Denoon ensured a semi-final place for the home team with some excellent bowls winning 16-7.

Leaders of the first and second divisions went head-to-head at Forres Royal British Legion where Lossiemouth Bowling Club were the visitors.

Harry Milne for the hosts was level at sux apiece with Mark Thompson after nine ends. Thompson finished the stronger winning the final four ends for a 10-6 success.

Charlie Stewart won five successive ends to win 15-5 as the coastal club took a comfortable lead into the second session.

Neil Mathers and Jutta Hewitt battled out a level match finishing 12 apiece, George Jack continued his early season form as the division one leaders booked a place in the semi-final.

Second division Forres Victoria took on first division Burghead with the second division side starting the brighter Paul Coutts and Charlie Watt taking control of their matches.

The second division side continued to put their coastal opponents under pressure in the middle ends with little response from the first division club.

By the 10th end there was no way back for Burghead as Forres will represent the second division in the last four.

The final match was also a first versus second division affair with Birnie hosting Fochabers.

David Parry got the second division club of to a great start only dropping three ends en-route to a 19-4 success.

Keith Lambert kept the club from the east in contention winning 15-12.

The second session proved to be a tense affair as the visitors continued to cut the first session deficit. All went down to the final ends with Birnie still holding an advantage, George Duncan counted four shots on the last end as Fochabers completed the comeback winning by one shot.
