The Black and Golds' boss sees Buchan as having the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the Highland League.

Buchan (23) has penned a two-year deal in the second piece of good news for Huntly fans this week, with former skipper Michael Clark returning to the club from Formartine United.

Hale also snapped up Colin Charlesworth from Deveronvale and Angus Grant from Turriff United last month and has completed a full set of signings from his list of intended captures.

He paid tribute to his club's board for giving him the toools necessary to continue his rebuilding efforts at the club.

"There has been a financial commitment made to bring these players in, considering they are under contract," said Hale.

"To do that in difficult times, I've very grateful to the board for backing my judgement and giving me the ability to bring these players in.

"This has been targeted recruitment over a long period of time. We knew when the season finished, the players we wanted to bring in and it's very rare as a manager that you get the four main targets that you are going after, that you are able to bring them into the club.

"The fact that we've been able to do that with Coco (Charlesworth), Angus, Greg and Michael, it speaks volumes. We've had to be patient with the process but I think it's excellent business for the club and I think it gives us an opportunity to have a really competitive team on the pitch next season."

Latest recruit Buchan had spent past of the last two seasons on loan at Deveronvale from parent club Fraserburgh.

Former Broch star Hale has had the talented midfielder on his radar for some time and was delighted to plunder his old club to make the signing.

"There were a few clubs in for Greg so I'm obviously pleased to get him," he said.

"Since I joined Huntly, Greg was the number one target and getting him on board is a great piece of business for us.

"The good thing about Greg is he is versatile and that kind of flexibility attracted me to him, not just in terms of positions but in roles as well.

"He can play a deeper role if he needs to or a more advanced one.

"I can see him being integral in the centre of the park for us, I feel that's where we can get the best out of him.

"In my opinion I think Greg's got all the attributes required to be one of the best midfielders in the league and hopefully within the spell he us with us he can go on and show that.

Huntly were one of the first clubs in the Highland League to begin their pre-season training last week, resuming with some light sessions.

"We have been back in pre-season for a week and the boys are in really good shape so we are looking forward to getting going," Hale said.
