Galbraith Highlands tennis league latest: Elgin B make tiebreaks count in mixed division one derby clash against Rothes A

IT was a close affair in the Galbraith Highlands tennis league mixed division one meeting between Elgin B and Rothes A.
The bottom-of-the-league clash hinged on the outcome of three match tie-breaks.
This fixture was in doubt when the teams turned up at the Rothes Courts only to find another match in progress.
The mix-up was sorted out by a phone call that confirmed that the Duff Avenue club’s other two teams were away from home so there were courts free. And so, the Rothes quartet gave up home advantage.
Elgin won 5-3 but it was an evening of 'what ifs' for the Speysiders.
Had first Rothes pair Michelle Malcolm and Peter Scott had taken the first set 1v1 rubber and if Bradley Scott and Maureen Turner had managed to win the two match tie-breaks they were involved in, the result would have swung their way.
It was not to be though, and they were left wondering if only they could have played on their own courts. Would it have made any difference? We will never know.
The match which caused the confusion, Rothes B v Forres, finished in a 4-4 draw.
Meanwhile, five miles down the road Aberlour were hosting Elgin’s C team.
This was a tale of two halves with first couple Marjory Stronach and Mark Hearns winning both their rubbers while the homesters’ seconds lost out.
