Goram (51) was in Elgin on Sunday to play in a Rangers Legends team in a benefit match for Ricksen, who suffers from Motor Neurone Disease.

Ricksen walked out on the Borough Briggs pitch to a rousing welcome from around 2,300 fans for the fund-raising game.

Goram played in a ‘Gers team which won 4-3 against a Ricker McIntosh XI, named in memory of an Elgin-based sufferer of the same disease which has struck down Ricksen.

Former Ibrox stars like Marco Negri, Michael Mols and Colin Hendry took on an opposition side which included ex-Celtic players Joe Miller, Enrico Annoni, Bobby Petta and Regi Blinker.

Old Firm rivalries were revisited during the game, and Goram – better known as ‘The Goalie’ – described Rangers and Celtic players as "a different animal" with many showing on Sunday that they don’t play friendlies.

He also teased passing team-mate Negri for scoring a rare header in the game, one of two goals netted by the Italian at Borough Briggs.

Jonatan Johansson also scored twice, with two goals by guest player David Ranse and one by Miller replying for the Ricker McIntosh XI.

Don’t miss Friday’s Northern Scot for a full picture spread and interviews with some of the stars.
