The Banffshire venue hosted the first round of the Boyndie Drome Open Challenge last weekend.

Club prokarts ran on the Saturday and the following day, all other classes were contested in drier conditions.

Two show trophies were up for grabs with Elgin's Craig Stephen lifting the Dickie Bent Cup for most impressive driver, as voted for by the marshals.

Stephen produced a superb drive in the Junior Max, winning all the heats as well as the final, setting an average speed of over 50 mph.

Second on the road was Mark Paterson while Matilda Brazier, who moved to third on lap five, held the position to the line.

There were joint winners of the other show trophy, the Kildonan Shield for the most successful driver in a senior class.

The award was shared by Cornhill's Jonathan Edwards in the Senior Max 162kg class and Gary Williams (Ellon) in the KZ2 UK (Gearbox).

In the Senior Max 162, Oldmeldrum's Kes Watson led for the first two laps before Edwards took the lead and went on to win by five seconds.

Ross Raffan hounded Dominic Lund for the majority of the final but the final podium position was taken by Lund.

Williams won the last race of the weekend, the KZ2 which proved to be the most exciting.

He led up Boyndie straight while Greg Moir took up the chase with Neil Anderson, Chris Walker and Ross Greig.

Carron-based Walker got third on the third tour while Williams managed to pull a gap and looked comfortable.

In the last few laps Huntly driver Moir and Walker were pulling in Williams, and at the end of Boyndie straight Moir made an optimistic move and almost lost control but was able to gather together.

Although there were no positional changes it was very close with Williams taking the victory by nine hundreds of a second from Moir, with Walker six tenths back in third.

In the Senior Max 177kg class, Turriff's Robert Strachan was able to keep Banff rival Adrian Brodie at bay to take the victory by two seconds.

Saturday's Club Prokarts saw Elgin's Daniel MacRae take a comfortable victory from Banff's Richard Evans.

In the heavies, Lossiemouth youngster Ayrton Redfearn surges to victory.

The Bambino race saw Louis MacDonald (Fyvie) make the best start but was soon passed by Whitehills rival Cooper Earsman, who went on to record his first final victory and celebrated by punching the air on the run down lap.

The largest grid of the weekend, the Honda Cadets, was led from the lights by Huntly's Leo Massie from pole position to win by two tenths of a second from Stuartfield's Finlay Smith.

The Twin Engined Prokart saw Stonehaven's Nicky Sutherland lead from the start, opening up a two-second gap over Arbroath's Garry Fleming on his way to the chequered flag.

A spin on lap 1 for Kyle Smith ruined his Mini Max race as Aiden MacDonald, who had won all the heats, also took the final from Duncan Ingram.

Club secretary Hamish Bruce presented the trophies after the meeting.

The next meeting at Boyndie is on April 9-10.

Next Boyndie meeting is on Sunday 9-10th April.
