Great success as almost 100 attends Elgin Cycling Club's Reliability Ride
ELGIN Cycling Club's year got off to a flying start as almost 100 riders took part in the first Big Ride of the season.
A total of 53 Elgin Cycling Club members joined 43 riders from all over the north of Scotland for the event.
Traditionally, the Reliability Ride is the early season starter. It's the ride that tests whether the riders and their bikes are ready for the season ahead.
All 96 riders left Elgin’s Grant Lodge in Cooper Park, bound for Denise Innes’ pop up cafe in Findochty Town Hall to tuck into a feast of breakfast rolls and an amazing selection of scones, buns and bakes.
Once again, this café attracted much appreciation from the riders, many of whom said it made Elgin’s ride ‘the best’.
The groups sped out of the café and up the Hill o Maud, then down through Buckie and back to Elgin along the coastal route, via Mosstodloch and for many, a quick pitstop at the Speyside Roasting Co in Garmouth.
These coffee stops warmed everyone up and counteracted the slightly cold weather, and the tested legs.
The ride, which attracted riders from 15 to 68 years old, raised funds for Elgin Cycling Club’s charity of the year, Clan Cancer support, an organisation close to the hearts of several club members and their families. Clan provides practical and emotional support to people affected by cancer.
Elgin Cycling Club organises road rides and races throughout the year. New members are welcome to join an evening or Sunday ride at any time. See Elgin Cycling Club on Facebook for more information.
