BUCKIE Ladies earned themselves a point in the teeth of fierce winds on Sunday when they faced Orkney Women.

The teams crossed swords in a very blowy Wick to eventually share the spoils 0-0. It was a match the visitors dominated, and even had the ball in the net through Skye Milne before it was chalked off after late call from the referee.

Buckie manager Laura Duncan, while disappointed not to leave Wick with all three points, was nevertheless pleased with her team’s performance.

She said: “We dominated the first half with the wind at our backs, although Orkney came into it more after the break when the wind favoured them.

“It was disappointing that Skye’s goal was chalked off, I thought we deserved it; it was on of those games we just couldn’t score. We also had some players missing, too

“However, it was good to see what we’re doing in training coming through into the matches.”

The match marked a first run out in Buckie colours for newly-signed striker Jess Moore (pictured), who joined the Gordon Park side from Elgin City.

Duncan commented: “It was a bit of a coup bringing Jess to Buckie, I’m really chuffed she chose to sign for us.

“She’s a great addition to the team; she’s strong and clinical and is a good, all-round No 9.”

This coming Sunday sees Buckie on their travels again, this time to face Sutherland in the League Cup. In a new format for this season, there is a first phase comprising two groups of teams each playing each other once. Also in Buckie’s group are Nairn and Ross and Cromarty.

Duncan added: “It’ll be a tough game but we’ll be looking to redeem ourselves for losing 0-1 to hem at home on the first day of the season.”

The game is scheduled to be played in Helmsdale, kick-off 3pm. For match updates and other Buckie Ladies news, follow the club’s Facebook page.
