Jags won 3-1 at Highland League new boys Brechin City on Wednesday to book a second round visit to Inverness on September 4.

The Championship outfit narrowly won 3-2 in the Scottish Cup at Buckie earlier this year.

Like Jags, Brechin had won all their league games so far since being relegated from League Two last term.

But a visiting side buoyed by their 10-0 drubbing of Keith on Saturday dominated from the kick-off.

Andy MacAskill, Max Barry and Jack Murray all threatened the home goal in the early stages as Brechin took time to settle.

Sam Urquhart and Kevin Fraser were next to go close for Jags, before Brechin's Luc Bollan hit the bar with a deflected effort.

Buckie deservedly went in front ten minutes before the break when Sam Morrison headed home his second goal in two games from a MacAskill centre.

A similar move for Brechin early in the second half led to Bollan nodding them level.

Brechin briefly had their tails up with sub Julian Wade curling wide, but Jags composed themselves to apply more pressure and got their noses back in front.

Urquhart notched his fifth goal of the campaign from close-in after Sam Pugh's effort was parried out to him on 75 minutes.

Jags course towards victory wasn't straightforward, particularly after Morrison was red-carded for denying Wade a goal-scoring opportunity with a foul five minutes from the end.

Brechin tried to make their extra man count and pushed on, but Buckie applied the killer blow in stoppage time through sub Callum Murray.

Buckie have now netted 23 goals in five competitive games this term, shared out by ten different scorers.

Their next challenge is in the league on Saturday when Deveronvale visit Victoria Park on derby duty in front of an all-ticket crowd.

Buckie team: Main, Munro, McLauchlan, Morrison, J Murray, Fraser, Pugh, Barry (Cowie 88), K MacLeod (C Murray 68), Urquhart, MacAskill (Wood 85).
