JEREMY Whittet led a Keith and District trio home to win the first race in the Pinto 3k series at Elgin’s Cooper Park.
Whittet’s time of 9 minutes and 37 seconds was 16 seconds faster than second-placed Frankie Barton, while the pair’s clubmate, John Goodall, came in third (10:13).
First lady home was Inverness Harrier Jenny Bannerman (10:25), just ahead of Moira Davie (Forres Harriers) to take overall seventh place.
The event, held in memory of veteran Elgin runner Alistair ‘Pinto’ Sim, drew a total of 70 entries which organiser Sarah McGregor compared favourably with previous years.
In the junior section, Fraser Scott stormed home ahead of Moray Roadrunners pair Lewis Sim and Calum Alexander.
The series involvesd three races, with the next events taking place at Cooper Park on August 3 and 17. Races start at 7pm, with registration at the library from 6.15 both evenings.
