After a narrow defeat at Deveronvale and a draw at home to Clach, the Maroons picked up their first Highland League win at The Haughs.

Match report and photos.

Ewen admitted he was delighted to get the three points for the first time this term.

"At the beginning of the season you are desperate to get an early win on the board," he said.

"We had two reasonable performances against Deveronvale and Clach.

"In this game we were fortunate at times and rode our luck.

"On the other hand we probably scored our goals at the right time and then we defended really resolutely towards the end of the match.

"There was a really good togetherness defending our box and the players had to put their bodies on the line. It was proper old Highland League football."

The Keith boss assessed the match and admitted the host team had plenty of the game.

"I thought the first half was quite even and Turriff were trying to play more football than we did.

"On chances (Turriff keeper) David Dey had a great save, Turriff had a couple of decent half opportunities that they didn't score.

"It felt at half-time the first goal was going to be crucial to the game and that's how it panned out.

"We started the second half well and we got on the front foot.

"It's a huge thing when you get a second goal when you are 1-0 up as it gives you that bit more separation.

"Unfortunately we conceded with 15 minutes to go and were under the cosh. It's all credit to the players who dug in.

"Turriff are going to win a lot of games of football this season, so it's a great three points for us."

The Maroons are back in action on Wednesday night at Ewen's former club Forres Mechanics

"That will be another tough game," he said. "They have won both their games so have had a flying start.

"I was there for five years and there is a lot of great people at the club who I have a lot of time and respect for. It will be another hard game for us.

"There are no easy matches in Highland League football now. We are taking one game at a time and will battle on."
