KEITH could be ready to appoint their new manager this week in time for Saturday’s derby at Huntly.

And Maroons director of football Michael Brown believes Saturday’s “outstanding” team display in the goalless draw against Inverurie Locos can be the foundation for the team to progress up the table.

Last week’s 10-0 shocker at Buckie, prompting the resignation of management duo Andy Roddie and Tommy Wilson, was forgotten as Brown took interim charge of the Locos encounter.

With largely the same group of players available, the young Maroons knuckled down and showed great bouncebackability to get their first point of the season.

“The guys were amazing, outstanding,” he said. “Each and every one of them were amazing.

“To turn around a 10-0 to come back and get a clean sheet and a point was exactly what I asked of them. I told them to go out and give 100 per cent effort and restore a bit of pride back in themselves and the club, which they did.

“I’m extremely proud of each and every one of them.”

Only centre-back Ryan Robertson and keeper Craig Reid – who saved a penalty – returned to the side from the Jags defeat.

Brown revealed that Keith have received several good-quality applicants for the managerial vacancy, and he and chairman Andy Troup are keen to bring the new man in soon.

“We’ve had tentative discussions with a couple of the applicants so we are hoping to get things moving along in the coming week and hopefully get an appointment sooner rather than later.

“Ideally we would like to have someone in place for the next game, but these things do take time to iron out, to get the right person.

“We’ve got Huntly on Saturday which is a huge derby game, but if there’s no appointment made then I will be taking the team again.”
