Kimberley’s team Focuses on the medals

ELGIN’S Focus Martial Arts and Fitness Centre returned their best medal haul of the year at Northern Ireland’s Poomsae Championships.

Teams from all over Scotland, England and Ireland attended the tournament and the Moray team from Focus came home with a clutch of gongs, including three golds.

Elgin’s Kimberley Clarke (17) was the star pupil, winning the individual junior female (black belt level) and the 1st team female event alongside the Mustard sisters Kirstin (18) and Marisa (16), from Alves. She also took silver in the first pair competition alongside Falkirk’s Glen Brown.

Kimberley, a 3rd Dan who also assists in classes at Focus and hopes to set up her own school one day, was given the go-ahead bhy head instructor Mark Russell to hand pick the Elgin studio’s team for Northern Ireland from all of its students.

“She has taken them up to a high standard,” Russell said. “It’s great to see a once shy wee girl now helping teach in class and helping others realise their potential.”

There was also gold for Elgin 11-year-old Chloe McIntosh in the female individual B-class cadet category, just pipping Louise Regazzoni (10, from Newmill) into the silver position. Shannon Mustard (12) and Stuart Tulloch (10) combined to take silver for cadet pairs.
