A MORAY golf student has helped his American university win a major title.

Kyle Godsman, from Hopeman, a final-year student at the University of South Carolina-Aiken, finished third this week in the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate and helped his college win the team title at Wexford Golf Club, Hilton Head Island.

Godsman had rounds of 74, 72 and 71 for a one-over-par total of 217 – five shots behind the winner, Adam Ball (Virginia Commonwealth) who set a course record of 66 in his final round.

USC Aiken won a team title for the second time on the 2013-2014 college golf season. Their total of 888 saw them head a field of 17 teams by one shot from Presbyterian with Charleston Southern (894) third.
