ELGIN City went down fighting in their latest League 2 match at Annan Athletic on Saturday.
An 80th minute goal secured a clean sweep of victories for Annan over Elgin this side.
The Black and Whites were also hit by a bad injury to Cove Rangers loan defender Jevan Anderson.
An unchanged Elgin side from last week's draw at Forfar created plenty chances in the first half with Rabin Omar heading the best early opening over the bar.
City keeper Daniel Hoban made a good stop from Tommy Goss while at the other end, Annan keeper Greg Fleming saved twice from Russell Dingwall and also made a fine stop from Hester as it finished goal-less at the break.
The Black and Whites were dealt with a double blow in the early minutes of the second half.
Firstly Goss struck the opening goal for Annan within the first minute of the half, then Anderson sustained a shoulder injury and was replaced by fellow Cove loanee Ross Draper.
However, Hester pounced to net his 15th goal of the season and level on 55 minutes.
City also had an effort cleared off the line and a penalty claim rejected, while Aidan Sopel forced a save out of Fleming as the visitors chased a winner.
But the decisive goal went the way of promotion chasers Annan as Goss grabbed his second of the game with ten minutes to go.
