Lossiemouth boss Frank McGettrick said it was the “right decision” to postpone last weekend’s match at Brora Rangers when his team had already made the long journey to Sutherland.

The Highland League fixture was postponed little over an hour before kick off as the match referee felt the Dudgeon Park surface was waterlogged and unplayable in sections.

McGettrick said that the referee had inspected the pitch at 10am and felt it was playable at that time.

He said: “We arrived there at 1.30 and it was 1.45 when the referee told us the game was cancelled but we had an idea that the game would’ve been off. The pitch looked really wet in some areas.

“Of course it’s annoying because it costs money for the bus to get up there, we’ll have to go up again in a midweek game during the season.

“Brora did a lot of work to keep the game on, they did their best, but it wasn’t looking good.

“Both teams were obviously keen to play, but for safety reasons, the referee made the right decision to call the game off.”

The manager is now focusing on the Coasters’ next match at home to Banks O’ Dee on Saturday.

He said: “It’ll be a tough game, they’ve got a very strong midfield and attack, strong and powerful players as well.

“We’ve just to go and try our best, that’s the most we can do. We’ll be organised and hopefully we’ll be there to get something out of the game.”

McGettrick also hopes to bring in some fresh faces to his Lossiemouth squad.

He said: “There are one or two signings we are currently looking at, but nothing just now.

“It just all depends on what opposition clubs say, we’ll see within the next couple of weeks.”

After Banks O’ Dee, Lossie complete a tough month of fixtures with a trip to Nairn County and a home clash against Rothes.
