A SERIOUS injury to midfielder Stuart Leslie overshadowed Elgin City's final pre-season friendly against Ross County.

However, despite initial fears that Leslie had broken a leg, it has now been confirmed that this was not the case.

Leslie was stretchered off in the second half as City crashed 4-1 to the SPL side at Borough Briggs.

The Inverness-based police officer was visibily distressed as he was stretchered from the field in the second half.

"Stuart was in agony and the injury has put a real dampener on things," said boss Ross Jack.

Jack later confirmed to 'The Scot' that the player had suffered severe bruising to his shin but there is no break.

With Leslie's injury, Paul Millar on Olympics security duty with the RAF, Mark Nicolson on holiday and the goalkeeper's position still to be filled, Jack has some concerns ahead of the season opening Ramsdens Cup match with Arbroath next Saturday.

After beating Aberdeen in midweek, City looked a little jaded in the first half against Ross County.

The visitors, about to embark on a pre-season tour of Holland, were 3-0 up inside 25 minutes with goals from Scott Boyd, Gary Glen and Colin McMenamin.

Craig Gunn pulled one back eight minutes before half-time but trialist keeper Neil Duffy punched the ball into his own net from a corner to make it 4-1 at the break.

City improved in the second half and matched their SPL opponents.
