The City manager saw his team surge into a 4-1 half time lead but accused them of going easy in the second 45 minutes, and warned stronger opposition could have punished them.

“The first half was very professional and the second half was very amateurish,” Ross said.

“I’m disgusted with the way we played in the second 45 minutes after getting off to such a good start,” Jack raged.

A Bryan Hay own goal after just 70 seconds got the ball rolling for the home side and Craig Gunn quickly added a second when his right wing cross dropped in the net in the third mionute.

Fraserburgh rallied with a 24 minute strike from Graham Johnston, who then hit the post with a brilliant free kick to give Elgin a scare.

But Jason Crooks beat the offside trap to make it 3-1 on the half hour and Brian Cameron rounded keeper Paul Leask to add a fourth three minutes later.

City could even afford the luxury of missing a penalty when Stuart Leslie’s 35 minute kick struck the bar.

Stopper Mark Nicolson headed home another two minutes after the break, before Johnston pulled a second back for the visitors.

Fraserburgh gave City a few scares in the closing half hour, prompting Jack to point the finger at some of his team for failing t maintain their good work.

“Too many people took their foot off the gas and thought it was going to be easy and that’s disrespectful to a team like Fraserburgh who will fight to the bitter end, as they did.

“I was disappointed with the amount of chances we missed. We got away with it against a Highland League team but against a top Third Division side you definitely won’t.

“We’re through to the next round which was the objective but I’m disappointed with our second half performance.”
